Preventive Care

Checkup & Cleaning

A dental checkup and cleaning every six months is key to keeping your child’s smile healthy and happy. With regular visits, we will be able to take care of small problems before they become big ones.

We start off by pairing your child with one of our skilled dental hygienists to give them a safe and fun experience. Then, the hygienist will use a few special tools to clean the plaque and tartar that have built up in your child’s mouth. Our dentist, Dr. Obebe, will come by and perform a checkup. He will look out for any signs of cavities, tooth decay, gum disease, and other common dental problems. Your child then gets the star treatment! They will receive a professional tooth cleaning and flossing session all while getting tips on how to take care of their teeth at home.

Orange Dinosaur Icon — Dental Sealants
Cavity Shield

Dental Sealants

Children often miss brushing and flossing their back teeth because of the location. This can cause cavities to develop over time which is no fun! That’s why we want to help keep their teeth healthy by applying a layer of dental sealant.

A dental sealant is a thin and clear layer of a BPA-free plastic based substance. It is brushed on the surface of the teeth and creates an invisible barrier that will prevent plaque and food bits from collecting on them. It only takes a few minutes and helps to preserve your child’s smile for years to come.

Green Dinosaur Icon — Fluoride Treatment
Enamel Strength

Fluoride Treatment

During your child’s visit, we will apply a fluoride gel to their teeth to give them protection from common dental problems. Fluoride is essential for your child’s growing smile.

It lowers the risk of cavities and tooth decay while strengthening the teeth. Ask the dentist or your dental hygienist when you come in about a fluoride treatment you can do for your child at home.

Restorative Care

Tooth Fillings & Crowns

Sometimes your child might get a cavity. Don’t worry though! We can make the cavity disappear by using a filling! The resin filling material we use is customized to match the color of your child’s teeth so that the filling looks natural, completely blends in, and makes their smile look strong.

If the tooth is cracked or has a large cavity, we may need to repair it by using a dental crown. Like a filling, we use a dental crown designed to look natural and blend in with your child’s natural tooth. Dr. Obebe will make sure that your child leaves with a fixed tooth and a big smile!

Light Green Dinosaur Icon — Tooth Extraction
Gentle Comfort

Tooth Extraction

It is our first priority to help save and repair your child’s natural teeth. However, sometimes a tooth extraction is needed. This could be because of trauma to the tooth, advanced decay, or upcoming orthodontic treatment.

A tooth extraction is a stressful time for a child so we will do what we can to provide a calm and safe environment. A gentle touch will always be used so that your child can leave with a healed smile.

Pediatric Digital X-Rays

X-rays are a tool we use everyday to get a better look at each child’s smile. They allow Dr. Obebe to take a very close look at the teeth and surrounding structures with amazing accuracy.

AGE-BY-AGE PEDIATRIC GUIDANCE

Caries Risk Assessment & Prevention by Age

Every developmental stage brings new milestones for your child’s teeth and oral habits.

Augusta Children's Dental Triceratops
0 – 1 YEAR

INFANT (0 – 1 YEAR)

Whether you’re an expecting parent or have a child younger than 12 months old, our goal is to help you and your child establish good dental habits and reduce the risk of cavities early on.

Augusta Children's Dental Baby Dino
1 – 3 YEAR

TODDLER (1 – 3 YEAR)

Your visit will start with a Caries Risk Assessment to see whether your child’s teeth have or are showing early signs of cavities. Our team will also provide you with oral hygiene instructions and guidance regarding diet, nutrition and other oral habits. The right nutrition and a simple fluoride treatment may be a sufficient alternative to a filling or restoration.

Augusta Children's Dental Pterodactyl
4 – 10 YEAR

JUNIOR (4 – 10 YEAR)

These are the habit making or breaking years, where the teeth are developing and growing, so your child’s teeth need to be evaluated more closely. We’ll walk you through a Caries Risk Assessment to determine if your child has cavities, and we’ll provide you with oral hygiene instructions to address habits and prevent decay on the permanent teeth growing in.

Augusta Children's Dental Stegosaurus
11+ YEAR

YOUNG (11+ YEAR)

Around this age, most children will have grown their adult teeth. Once they have a brand new adult smile, they will graduate from pediatric dentistry and move on to a general dental clinic! We love watching our little patients grow up to do amazing things.
